#Doona Bae interview #SURE magazine (Dec. 2013) PART III
Q 8: 예전 배두나에게는 스토리가 있었어요. 대중에게 친숙하게 다가가는 친절한 스토리. 두나의 놀이 시리즈도 그랬고. 최근 의류 광고에서 오빠랑 출연한 모습이 참 오랜만이고 반가웠어요.
Q 8: Doona Bae always used to have a story [to tell]. A friendly story that made you familiar and approachable to the public . The"Doona's play"was that kind of story. I was glad to see you- it's been a while-doing a clothing commercial with your elder brother just recently.
A: (웃음) 요즘 SNS를 잘 안 하죠. 당시에는 소통하는 것을 좋아했어요. 내가 어떻게 사는지 궁금해하는 사람들도 많았고. 또 젊을 때 즐기자는 마인드도 있었죠. 당시 배두나처럼 살고 싶다는 하이틴이 많았어요. 사진 찍고 꽃꽂이도 하면서 여러가지 취미 생활을 하는 모습이 그들에게 영감을 준다면, 좋다고 생각했어요. 그런데 어느 순간 더 이상 보여주면 영화 캐릭터로 다가가는데 문제가 되겠다라고 판단했죠. 캐릭터가 안 보이고 배두나가 보이는 것을 경계했어요. 자진해서 나를 드러내는 일을 최대한 배제하죠. 당시에도 모르진 않았어요. 예전 미니홈피에도 절대 제 의견을 쓰진 않았으니까.
A: *laughs* I don't often go on SNS nowadays. I used to like to communicate [with the public] then. There were many people who were interested in how I lived my life, and I wanted to enjoy life while young. Many teens said they wanted to live like Doona Bae. I thought it'd be fine to inspire them with the way I enjoyed my life through various hobbies such as photography or flower arrangement. But I realized at some point that further sharing of my life would become an obstacle for them to accept my movie characters. I was concerned about them seeing only Doona Bae and overlooking the characters. So I voluntarily cut down exposing myself as much as possible. It was not that I was not aware [of this potential danger?]. Even then, I had never written about my opinions on my homepage.
Q 9: 당시 카메라는 좋은 소통의 툴이었어요. 소통만이 아니라, 본인의 삶에도 즐거움을 주는 도구였죠. 카메라만 한 또 다른 툴이 생겼을까요?
At that time, your photography was a great way of communication. It allowed not only communication but also gave you joy. Do you have something else that replaced it?
A: 글쎄요. 음...딱히 도구는 없는데, 몇 년 사이 다른 문화를 배우는 데 재미를 느껴요. 언어를 열심히 배웠는데, 결국 문화를 알아야 말을 할 수 있어요. 그 재미에 빠져있어요.
A: I don't know. Hmmm...I don't think I have any other way, but I've become interested in learning about other cultures last few years. I studied hard to learn a language but you can't speak the language without knowing the culture [ it belongs to]. So I am having fun doing that.
Q 10: 사실 처음 스튜디오에서 봤을 때 분위기가 달라져 낯설었어요. 생각을 정리해보니, 나이도 무시 못할 거라는 생각이 들었죠.
Q 10: To tell you the truth, you felt different when I first saw you at the studio. I thought about it and figured that it might be something about your age.
A: 예전의 내가 어땠는지 기억이 안 나요. 인생관이나 가치관이 20대와 크게 달라진 것은 없고요. 여전히 호기심이 많고 장난치는 모습은 똑같고요. 아무래도 나이가 들었으니 분위기는 달라졌겠죠.
A: I can't remember how I was before. How I see life or my values have not changed much from when I was in 20's. I am still curious and playful. But probably my age must have changed how I seem to other people.
Q 11: 포털사이트의 필모그래피에는 오래된 작품이어도 출연진은 최근 모습으로 소개되어 있어요. 당시의 사진을 사용했으면 할 떄도 있어요. 그리워서요.
Q 11: If you look at filmography part on your fan site (I am not too sure what the author meant by the first part of the question so I am guessing here), you see that the cast photo is updated to the most recent one even though the movie is an old one. I sometimes wish they would keep the photos from the time that particular movie was released. I miss it.
A: 단순하게, 과거는 단 하루도 뒤돌아보지 않아요. 낭만이 없다고 생각할 수도 있어요. 그런데 현재가 가장 중요해요. 미래도 생각하지 않고요. 필모그래피도 마찬가지에요. 현재 최선을 선택하되, 뒤돌아보지 않아요. 지나치게 그런 성향이 있죠.
A: If I can put it simply, I never look back on my past, not even a day. You might think me unromantic. But now is the time most important to me. I don't think about the future, neither. It's the same with my filmography. I give all to Now, but I don't look back. I have the tendency to do it too much.
Q 12: 어쩌면 바빠서, 대중은 모르지만 본인 스스로 뭔가에 집중하고 있어서인가요?
Q 12 : Do you think it's maybe because you are busy-the public might not know it, but you are always focusing on something?
A: 늘 뭔가 하고 있기는 해요. 작품을 안 한 작년 한 해 동안 영어를 죽을 힘을 다해 배우고 있었으니. 그러느라 나의 행보를 뒤돌아본 적은 없었던 것 같아요.
A: It's true that I am always doing something. Although I did not work on a movie last year, I was almost killing myself learning English for a year. So I don't think I've ever looked back on my life so far. |
