Q 13: 아까 살짝 흰 머리를 봤어요. 깜짝 놀랐죠. 바보 같은 이야기지만, 에서 본 두나의 모습은 더 이상 없겠죠? 나이 드는 것에 대해 생각한 적이 있나요?
Q 13: I thought I saw something silver in your hair before. I was so surprised. It might sound stupid but I guess I can't expect you see Doona Bae from your past movies? Have you thought about getting older?
A: 20대에 30대의 내 모습을 많이 기대했죠. 20대 때에만 맡을 수 있는 역할을 주로 해왔고요. 나 는 정말 스무 살 때에만 할 수 있는 역할이에요. 그래서 서른이 넘으면 난 더 멋있고 여성스러워질거야! 그렇게 생각했단 말이죠. 그래서 굉장히 기대를 했죠. 사실 그런 쪽으로 나이 먹는 건 좋아요. 나이가 들면서 어쩔 수 없는 것들도 생겨요. 사람이 좀 무게감이 있어 보이는 건 마음에 들어요. 아직까지는 괜찮은데, 나이로 인해 캐릭터에 제한이 생기고 배우 생활에 선택을 해야 한다면, 뭐 결국 따라가야죠.
A: When I was in my 20's, I had a great expectations for my 30's. I have played roles only a 20 something old can do. So I thought to myself, ' I am going to be more sophisticated and feminine when I become 30 '. So I had a big expectation. Frankly I like getting in older in that sense. Then, there are things that happen when you get older. I like looking more serious. So far [my age is] not problem but if you get limited roles because of your age, which leads to making choices for my acting career, well I will have to accept it.
Q 14: 어머님의 모습도 보이더라고요. 닮았다고 해도 예전엔 잘 못 느꼈거든요. 어머니처럼 이제 가정을 이루고 싶은 생각은 없나요?
Q 14: I saw something of your mother in you. I know you and your mother looked similar but did not really see it before. Don't you feel like starting a family like your mother?
A: 음...늘 아이를 갖고 싶다는 생각을 해요. 내가 아무리 배우로 인정을 받는다고 해도, 먼 훗날 아이가 없다면 그 삶이 성공일까, 행복한 여자일까 그런 생각을 해요.
A: Hmm...I have always thought about having a child. I always think whether it will be a happy life-would I be a happy woman-if you don't have a child of your own even if I get to be successful in my career .
Q 15: 그간 인터뷰에는 아버지 이야기가 별로 없어요. 아버지의 응원이 궁금해요.
Q 15: You haven't much talked about your father in your previous interviews. I am curious about the support [for your career] from your father.
A: 처음에는 배우의 길을 반대하셨어요. 성공하면 크게 성공하고 실패하면 완벽히 실패하는, 중간이 없는 길을 가는 것이 싫다고요. 한 번 만류하시고 난 후론 전폭적으로 지지해주세요. 가령 출연 제의가 들어왔을 때, 배우는 노출을 두려워하지 않아야 한다고 생각하면서도 좀 망설였거든요. 그런데 아버자기 반색하셨죠. 고레에다 히로카즈 감독이 부르는데 왜 망설이냐고. 딸이나 여자가 아니라 배우로 봐주세요. 그때마다 좋은 배우가 되어야겠다고 생각하죠.
A: He was against my choice of acting career in the beginning. He did not like the fact that you either win big or lose big, and there is no middle in this business. He was against it just once, and then has not given me full support since then. When I got the offer to do "Air Doll", I hesitated to give an answer although I knew an actor should not be afraid to be naked. But my father was delighted [with the offer?] and said I should not hesitate when someone like Director Hirokazu Koreeda wants me. He sees me as an actor not just as his daughter or a woman. Whenever [he shows his support like this], I think to become a good actor.
Q 16: 배우의 삶은 갈수록 더 어렵고 고독하지 않을까요? 자신의 소신대로 작품을 선택하고 깊이 파고들 때마다 외로울 수 있겠다는 생각도 들어요.
Q 16: Don't you think an actor's life will get more difficult and lonelier? I have a feeling that you might get lonely whenever you choose your work based on your convictions, and get immersed in the work.
A: 경력이 쌓일 수록 외로운 것은 사실이고, 의식적으로 매너리즘에 빠지는 스스로를 깨뜨리려고 많이 노력해요. 내 자신이 더 강해져야겠다고, 또 외롭지만 견디면서 새로운 것을 계속 봐야 한다고 생각해요. 안주하는 것을 별로 좋아하지 않고요. 를 하면서 체력적으로 힘들었는데, 그때마다 나를 나에게 기대야 하는 것이 굉장히 외로운 일이긴 했어요. 하지만 모든 스태프들이 힘든데, 오히려 내가 더 잘해서 그들에게 힘이 되고 싶은 마음도 함께 존재하죠.
A: It is true that you get lonelier the longer you work. I make a lot of effort to break myself [to shake myself up?] so I would not fall into mannerisms. I tell myself that I have to get stronger, and that I have to endure loneliness to keep looking at new things . I don't like to stay in one safe place. The movie was physically hard on me, and whenever that happened I had only myself to rely on. That is a very lonely thing to do. But I also wanted to do better in order to help out all other staffs who were not having an easy time neither. |
